About Cairo University

Cairo University is the second oldest Egyptian university and the third in the Arab world after Al-Azhar University and the University of Al-Qarawiyyin. Its various faculties were established during the era of Muhammad Ali, such as Al-Muhandis Khana (around 1820) and the Medical School in 1827, then it was soon closed during the reign of Khedive Muhammad Saeed (around 1850). After a massive popular demand campaign for the establishment of a modern university led by Mustafa Kamel and others. This university was founded on December 21, 1908, it was known as Fouad I University and then Cairo University after the July 23, 1952 revolution. It includes a large number of university faculties. The university is located in the city of Giza, west of Cairo, and some of its faculties are located in the neighborhoods of Manial, Munira, and Dokki, such as the faculties of human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and physical therapy. The number of its graduates who have won the Nobel Prize is 3, and it was ranked globally in 2004 among the list of the 500 largest universities in the world, and annually more than 155,000 students graduate from it.
